Being a Hooligan: What I have learned about Peter Hernandez

As many of my followers on Twitter and friends on Facebook may have come to realize that as of lately I definitely joined the bandwagon of the one fierce Mr. Bruno Mars. Now maybe you're one of the 115 million viewers who watched his halftime performance this past Super bowl. If not, dude.... you are missing pure gold.

Bruno Mars Super amazing Halftime performance. (Watch here)

So I've been a Hooligan for about a month now and it's like being the new kid transferred to a new school. Yeah, it's just a fan base but it's the unity between the fans that can make it fun and not so fun. Although Bruno has been circulating in the industry for several years now, it wasn't until his tribute to the late Amy Winehouse that made me give his music a second listen.

When I first heard "Grenade", I didn't like it. It wasn't the music or his voice I didn't like. It was the objective of the song. I couldn't comprehend how and why a good looking guy like himself would allow a woman to put him though the ringer like that. All in the name of love. I mean I suppose if you look at the poetic standpoint of it, "I would do anything to profess my love to you. I would catch a live grenade, put my hand on a blade. Even jump in front of a train to prove my love and loyalty to you." Okay, maybe in the Shakespearean Era that would gain you a key to my chastity belt, but in this day and age I probably would be just a bit concerned over both of our safety.

So being a Hooligan of the last couple of days, I've learned there is a division in the fan base. There is one half that likes Jessica Caban (Mars' girlfriend of three years) and the other half well they really give her a hard time. And although I am in between of it all, I am not a die-hard fan of Jessica's but I don't hate her. And I don't understand why so many do. Jessica reigns from NYC like myself which was a plus for me. I'll cheer for you hell over high waters if you're from New York. Two, she was the first winner of Model Latina. Which means she made history. (Whether you see it for what it is or not.) And Three, she's dating Bruno Mars. Now I did try to research any possible movie roles that she could be working on in the most recent months but to no avail. In one interview, Jessica was billed as a Dancer, model and actress. So with only the intention of pure curiosity, I went to look up any possible videos of Jessica dancing, which again ended up fruitless. Jessica is a pretty face, and she has a hot body and she has one of the biggest recording artists of Modern music as a boyfriend, maybe she doesn't need to pursue her career anymore. Maybe she is ready to settle down and start making miniature versions of Peters and Jessicas. Who really knows? But I will be watching.

I have never been a part of a fan base that the fans prefer for the artist to go back to their ex's. Not to say it has never happened, I've just never been a part of that. Now again, I wasn't a Hooligan when Bruno and Chanel Malvar was dating but I do remember bits and pieces of their relationship that was exposed to the media. Chanel is a young entrepreneur of different forums. A dancer, a model, a actress. (Kinda like Jessica.) And she seems to not only be very well level headed but funny and feisty as well. One song on Mars' unorthodox Jukebox album entitled "when I was your man" is believed to be about Malvar and his relationship with her.

" It all just sounds like oooooh
Mmm, too young, too dumb to realize
That I should've bought you flowers
And held your hand
Should've gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party
'Cause all you wanted to do was dance
Now my baby's dancing
But she's dancing with another man

My pride, my ego, my needs, and my selfish ways
Caused a good strong woman like you to walk out my life
Now I never, never get to clean up the mess I made, ohh
And it haunts me every time I close my eyes"

It was never confirmed whether or not this song is in fact about their relationship, but reading between the lines does makes you wonder.

I have met a couple of awesome people since I have became a fan of his. Some good and some really great. The fans love to listen to his music, watch his videos and watch him on TV. They love to talk about his performances, their attraction to him, and things of that nature. He has inspired so many and they aren't shy to tell him so. He has went through so many obstacles from being dropped by a major label to losing his devoted mother last summer. Challenges that made him a success story for many years to come. Performing at small venues with a small group of people to performing in front of millions of people live during the super bowl halftime show.

A true artist's work can not be altered, destroyed or tampered with. What is art is art. And it can not changed by anyone. I believe Bruno has a amazing talent in songwriting. There isn't one song of his that doesn't carry that strong gene of definition, a meaning. He writes to all of us, so we all can understand and grip with the emotions that are being convey through his music. Either you are happy, sad, in love, or just simply horny. He has a talent for it and I am proud to witness it firsthand.
