Parker Music Revolution: The beginning of a Dynasty

Who is Kelly Parker?

Some may know her as the sister of Tommy Parker, 1/3 of the music group BackPack Kids, but do you KNOW her? A self-proclaimed Musician and Lyricist, Kelly has made a name for herself in more than one way on more than one occasion.

Coming from a musical family, Kelly has written music through out her childhood which led up to a position as a songwriter under many labels such as; Under Dog Entertainment, Darkchild Entertainment, MBK Entertainment, and her own publishing company, Parker Music Group.

Working with the likes of Lazonate Franklin, Mickey Shiloh and plenty of others, Kelly has set a mission to create music that spreads love throughout the world. Being married to her music, Kelly opens up about her influences, what it's like working with her brother, her thoughts on censorship in music and what to expect from her as an Musician.

How do you describe yourself as an artist?

Kelly Parker: Well, I wouldn't consider myself an artist per say, I am more of an Musician/Lyricist. I have been writing songs with my brother as long as I can remember. We come from a family that does a lot of singing, dancing in the house all (and I do mean ALL) the time. (Laughs) I enjoy singing and releasing on paper, but that is as far as I'd like to go for now.

Who is "Parker Music Group"?

KP: "Parker Music Group" is the former name of my Music Publishing Company, Tommy and I started back in 2007.

What is it like working with your brother, Tommy?

KP: I can honestly say it's the best! We've been best friends always, so the music is just second nature to us, really.

Who are your influences and why?

KP: WOW! That's a good one. There are just too many to narrow down to a few. Music, I would have to say is my influence over all. But if I had to go to my last concert on Earth, I would like the line up to be: Ella Fitzgerald; because she has an angelic voice, Marvin Gaye; because he is so poetic and smooth, Jay-z; because he is one of the greatest rappers, and the Headliner Michael Jackson; because he is music.

Do you play any instruments?

KP: I would have to say my vocals is my instrument right now. Though I am very interested in learning how to play the guitar. I mess around with it, but nothing I will show in public yet. (wink)

What inspires you to do what you do as a Musician?

KP: Honestly, the world around me. I draw inspiration from everything- even as simple as the way the petals blossom in spring, or the way dew creeps off the asphalt in the morning. All of these beautiful things creates my songs.

What can the audience expect from Kelly Parker, the musician?

KP: Hmm.. Well as far as my music goes, the world can look out for a few projects I am working on; of course the wonderfully talented Austin Brown, "4 Counts" Sonny Penderson, and MBK's lovely Artist Daisha.
Please check her out performing my single, "Top Blow" which is being featured in the up-coming Focus feature film, "Pariah". Hopefully, we'll have a surprise from Prince Parker "2012"- let's keep our fingers crossed. (Smiles)

How do you feel about the music industry towards the female artist base?

KP: I feel that the industry is in desperate need of a makeover on so many levels. Female artistry would be just the beginning. That being said, for Music versus Entertainment, it is inevitable if you're not in it for the love of music above all else, you will not last. Music expands, it never stays the same. The problem with Artists, primarily Female Artists, there is not enough change. Not enough versatility; in my opinion.

On censorship:

"To an extent it is appropriate, but you must be aware of crossing that line in interfering with artist expression."

On Working with Lazonate Franklin:

"Well, I actually have only had the pleasure of writing with Ms. Franklin once. It was quite unorthodox. Something quick, on the phone. (Laughs) Lazonate is actually a friend of mines, she is a beautiful woman with an amazing talent. "Telephone" is still on my workout playlist."

Saddest song:

"Hands down, "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holiday. I can't even listen to that song, it always makes me cry."

On Celebrity Crushes:

"Hmm.. I think Lupe Fiasco is a real cutie..and I'm sorry Beyonce, but Jay is oh so fine, Just saying. I mean, a girl can look. (Smiles)"

In reference to the recent breakup between Kim Kardashian and her husband Kris Humphries, how long do you believe you should date before getting married?

KP: Well, I don't believe you should put a time frame on love. But at least, date him long enough to know his last name and if he sleeps with a cat or something. (Laughs)

Complete the sentence:

I think it's sexy when a guy..

"Makes me smile without trying."
